Farm & Agriculture Insurance
Farming and agricultural operations have a risk profile unlike any other business — weather, livestock, equipment, and land all interact in ways that standard commercial policies aren't designed to handle. Farm insurance is built specifically for that world.
Farming is a business, a livelihood, and a way of life — the coverage needs to match all three.
A farm policy is a hybrid product that combines elements of commercial property, general liability, commercial auto, and inland marine into a single program tailored for agricultural operations. It covers the farmstead, the crops, the livestock, the equipment, and the liability that comes from farming — all within a structure designed for how farms actually operate.
Farm insurance applies across the spectrum of agricultural operations — from small family farms and hobby farms to large commercial row-crop operations, livestock facilities, orchards, vineyards, and agribusiness. The coverage components and limits scale with the size and complexity of the operation.
Beyond the core farm policy, larger agricultural operations often need additional coverages: crop insurance (through USDA/RMA programs), agribusiness liability for operations with public contact, custom farming coverage for equipment used on others' land, and workers' compensation for farm employees.

What farm insurance covers.
Farm insurance brings together property, liability, and specialty agricultural coverages into one program.
Farm Property
Covers the farmhouse and personal residence, barns, grain bins, silos, machine sheds, and other farm structures against fire, wind, hail, lightning, and other covered perils. Can be written on replacement cost or ACV basis.
Farm Liability
Covers bodily injury and property damage claims arising from farming operations — injuries to visitors, agritourism guests, employees, and damage to neighboring property from farming activities.
Livestock
Covers horses, cattle, hogs, poultry, and other farm animals against accidental death, injury, and theft. Scheduled individual animal coverage available for high-value horses and breeding stock.
Farm Equipment & Machinery
Covers tractors, combines, planters, tillage equipment, and other farm machinery against collision, upset, fire, theft, and weather. Scheduled or blanket coverage available depending on inventory size and value.
Harvested Crops & Grain
Covers harvested grain, hay, feed, and other agricultural commodities in storage against fire, wind, lightning, and other perils. Separate from federally-backed crop insurance, which covers growing crops in the field.
Agritourism & Direct Sales
Farms that sell direct to consumers, host events, operate farm stands, or welcome visitors need specific liability coverage for public contact. Standard farm liability may exclude or limit agritourism activities.
Common questions.
A commercial property policy covers business buildings and contents in a commercial context — it's not designed for agricultural operations, livestock, farm equipment, or the combination of personal and business property that exists on a farm. A farm policy is a specialty product that addresses all of those exposures in a single, appropriately-structured program.
Standard farm policies cover harvested crops and grain in storage against fire, wind, and other perils. Growing crops in the field — losses from drought, flooding, hail, or pests — are typically covered through federally-subsidized crop insurance programs administered through USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA). We can help you navigate both.
Workers' compensation requirements for agricultural workers vary significantly by state — some states require it, some exempt small farm operations, and some have special rules for seasonal workers. We'll identify your state's requirements and make sure you're in compliance.
Standard farm policies typically cover your equipment at the insured farm and in transit. Custom farming operations — where you use your equipment to perform work on another person's land for hire — may require an endorsement or separate coverage. Let us know if you do custom work.
Small farm operations, hobby farms, and rural properties with animals or small-scale agricultural activities often fall between personal homeowners and commercial farm policies. We'll assess your specific situation and find the right product — whether that's a farm policy, a homeowners policy with farm endorsements, or a standalone farm program.
Coverage for the land you work and the life you've built.
Whether you're farming a few acres or running a large commercial operation, we'll build the right program for your agricultural risk.
